Mitigation Action Facility launches interactive learning exchange to support Projects in the Detailed Preparation Phase

July 22, 2025

To enhance knowledge sharing and promote peer learning among Projects in the Detailed Preparation Phase (DPP), the Mitigation Action Facility has launched a new interactive learning exchange.

Kick-off meeting: Laying the foundation for peer exchange

In June 2025, the Technical Support Unit (TSU) hosted a virtual kick-off meeting for the DPP learning exchange. Twenty-five participants representing various Projects in DPP actively engaged and contributed to the success of this first session.

The meeting aimed to introduce the concept of the learning exchange, gather feedback, and better understand project needs. Participants agreed on a set of grounding rules to ensure a safe, open space for discussion – underlining the importance of trust and peer learning.

The first thematic session, held in July, focused on financial mechanisms, a critical need identified during the kick-off meeting.

Jasmina Curic, Financial Mechanisms expert of the TSU, presented an overview of financial instruments and a blended finance example from Thai RAC project, which successfully concluded in 2021. She also shared common pitfalls and related recommendations based on experiences across the MAF portfolio like:

  • Diminished political support and/or policy misalignment as well as
  • Lengthy establishment of financial mechanisms and financial mechanisms misaligned with target group needs.

Following the presentation, participants engaged in peer exchange sessions to share their own challenges related to financial mechanisms, receive peer advice, and discuss potential solutions. The TSU concluded the session with a summary of key do’s and don’ts drawn from past MAF-funded projects.

Looking ahead

The kick-off and first thematic session mark the beginning of a comprehensive support offer for Projects in DPP. The next exchange in September will feature a Project in Implementation sharing key lessons learnt form their own DPP experience.

By fostering open dialogue and collaboration, the DPP learning exchange aims to build stronger project proposals that contribute to transformational change – while strengthening the broader Mitigation Action Facility network
